Super Mario Special 3 is a Game Boy Color port of Super Mario Bros. 3, produced in 2000 by Yong Yong.

Super Mario Special 3 features the standard Mario gameplay such as coin boxes, mushrooms and the Super Leaf that turns you into Raccoon Mario. However, Tanuki Mario is not present and you can't fly or use the attack tail move.

Like other Yong Yong games such as "Sonic 3D Blast 5" and 'Pokémon Adventure', it has five levels. At the end of a level, you jump into a block and collect a mushroom to finish the level. Finishing the fifth level "fortress" will activate the end sequence.

The world map is available, but you can now move freely on it. This was probably done intentionally, since World 1-4 is impossible to finish, Mario will be trapped forcing the player to reset the game. The levels follow the pattern of the original SMB3, but only the first five levels are included. The levels themselves are taken from the original game.

There are no bonus games, as Mario cannot interact with the Hammer on the map either.
